DIY Ameeeerica Skull shirt...

DIY..... Inspired by Brandy Melville

Since my recent move, I have had to be a little bit money savvy.  So when I saw a shirt on Brandy Melville's site I decided to see what I could do to make it versus buy it.

All you need is an old shirt, paint, paint brush, old paper bag, sheet of white paper, scissors, and tape (i used painters tape because it re-sticks easily.)  I recommend drawing out the picture first and coloring it in before cutting and painting just so you have a good guide to go by.  I painted everything in steps depending on what colors i used and where.  The trickiest parts were the teeth and stars.  I cut them out individually and then taped them on.  I started with them covered and then colored them in just like the blue tape for the yellow stripes. The teeth will move around, but it looks cool when the colors bleed a little bit.

Bits and pieces...

Back to the City....
I had a wonderful two weeks back in New York.  I can't help but miss the energy that encompasses the city.   Everywhere you turn there is inspiration, and a drive to LIVE that rivals any other city in the world.  My main reason for returning was a performance at the dance festival, Jacobs's Pillow with Nicholas Andre Dance.  However, I also enjoyed two weeks of teaching yoga at Yoga to the People as well as teaching at a tennis camp.  While my tennis skills are not great, yoga with the kids was incredible.  Here are just a few bits from my travels.  The week finished up in Washington D.C. with Gabe and his family to celebrate the fourth!  Ameeeeerrica!  The perfect ending to a great work-ation.

DIY : NO SEW Hippie feather headband

What you will need....
Suede leather cord, scrap fabrics, fabric glue, skinny wire, feathers, small piece of leather
First, take the cord and two long narrow scraps of fabric ( I use old curtain fabric,) and the wire.  Wrap the wire around all three very tight.  Then braid them to a length that will wrap around your head.  Seal off the other end by wrapping the wire around all three strands.  Then take your fabric glue and small piece of leather, and roll the ends together.  Wait to dry.  You can choose to cover up the wire or let it show, it looks neat either way.  Next, cut a piece of suede cord and use the wire to wrap the feathers on cord on the ends.

Lastly, take the suede piece and wrap it around the head band.  I placed mine on the side so it would swing down towards my face, but you can experiment with where ever you like it.  Then use the wire to wrap and seal the cord in place.  Voila!  Hippie-headband!

Ahoy!!!

HarborFest and OpSail
The festivities brought a gaggle of ships from all over the world to Norfolk this past weekend.   Transforming a desolate downtown area into a ship lovers disney land.  Ignorant to the vast array of sailboat styles, I was amazed at how many beautiful shapes and sizes they came in.  The Picton Castle, in particular was my favorite.  A modestly sized boat next to the other grandiose naval sailing ships from several countries.  The boat is sailed and run by students traveling all over the world.  My boyfriend, Gabe, was mesmerized and jealous by the idyllic lifestyle of the free world traveller.  I found myself inspired by all of the colors of fabrics and richness of wood.  Instantly craving the experience of travel overseas. Le sigh.  We will be sailing around the world on a ship of our own one day, but for now we must patiently work on land  dreaming of sandy beaches and that salty ocean breeze.
